A Prayer

It is unwise to take the majority of my song lyrics seriously, which is to say, as fact. More often than not, I would get inspired to write something that ends up as the chorus, and then I worked backwards from there to flesh out the story I wanted to tell or the feeling I wanted to convey. I could say that I am first and foremost a liar of a songwriter, but I like to think it's an outlet to explore empathy.

Snip-A-Doo-La!

The deed is done. Yesterday, I underwent the no-scalpel vasectomy procedure, which means, simply, that if my brother and his wife don't procreate, the name of Johnson shall perish. No pressure or anything. As I lounge through the recovery phase of the procedure, I thought I'd share my experience for the benefit of any men out there who are considering and/or dreading it.

Note: The following concerns my personal experience, and is in no way a substitute for qualified, expert medical advice.

Of This I Dream

I have been working my way steadily through Seth Speaks, and the material that I am reading right now concerns dreams, their purpose, and how you might make the best of them. He talks about the effective uses of suggestion, such as telling yourself to dream about losing weight or surviving cancer. He claims that these suggestions are carried out on some level during the dream state, and while this doesn't necessarily mean that you'll get the expected end result (depending on what is suggested) the overall positive benefits are worth considering. In short, what is the harm in suggesting that you become happier or healthier in some way before you go to sleep?

As a warning to the reader, this article is going to get rather personal. I have opted to share this story because of the punchline, more or less, and not out of some voyeuristic thrill. This story involves someone who I am pretty sure will never read this article, but if she does, it shouldn't be especially surprising to her. I will use an alias for this person for privacy reasons.

Jeanne and Jeff's Engagement

by Ethan Johnson

Earlier this month, we met Jeanne and Jeff for breakfast. I was still trying to focus myself into physical reality as I went to bed late. Everything was rather nondescript until I suddenly felt like I was surrounded by some huge inside joke, and that I'd never fully understand the punchline.

Jeanne and Mar made faces at each other as if to say "I know something you don't know". Jeff was laughing at pretty much everything, no matter how seemingly innocuous. Finally, after a small eternity, the bombshell was revealed: Jeanne and Jeff are getting married.
