Wow, has it been that long? I'll just skip ahead to the present day, as I probably won't remember anything we saw on video anyway. Oh, we did see Chicago and loved it.

Kill Bill, Volume One: Quentin Tarantino is back, baby. Actually, Uma Thurman is.

Yes, is a completely ridiculous movie, filled with ungodly amounts of splatter-gore and comic-book dialogue, but really, the movie is about Uma, and how much she kicks ass. She's got her matching outfit, she's got a steely gaze, she magically rules the earth with her samurai sword. Face it, she's uber cool.

Not sure why this could just have been one long movie, because it went by really quick, Unlike Pulp Fiction, where it seems quick until you watch it again at home and realize it's all about the Samuel L Jackson parts. Not so here. Uber. Cool.

We're going to own it someday. What higher endorsement is there?

School of Rock: Hell yeah!

OK, there are a few ground rules before you see this movie:

  • Turn off your mind, relax, and float downstream.
  • It is assumed that you really, really like Jack Black.
  • I mean, you want to see 2 hours of non-stop Jack Black, and leave the theatre wanting to see more Jack Black.
  • You are Canadian, and feel it is your patriotic duty to pay matinee rates to see Jack Black.
  • You are at best vaguely familiar with Tenacious D but think you can forget about all of that for 111 minutes.
  • You just wanna have fun. So much fun, you pronounce "fun" with 2 syllables. (Fu-un)

Sure, you can drive a Mack™ truck through the plot holes, and really, it's just a vehicle for Jack Black. Jack Black! Jack Black! Aiiieee!!

Seriously, though, it was a complete and total riot. I'm a complete sucker for movie like this one. Nothing like laughing 'til I cried, then realizing that part of the whole "crying" thing had something to do with writing over 70 songs and never, and I mean never, getting on stage. What the hell! And I heard Cathy Richardson on WXRT when I was last in the Chicago area, still sounding like Melissa Etheridge (it's true, I'm sorry), but doing it on 'XRT! Dude, where's my justice? If only I could round up a group of prep school kids to learn my stuff and play Battle of the Bands!

Well, at least there's Jack Black, doing it so you don't have to. It's worth it, even once, to go have a good time with this flick as the centerpiece. We are so owning it, just don't even talk to me. <EM>
